For many vacationers, the incredible sport fishing is reason enough to return to the Outer Banks year after year. Whether you love deep-sea fishing, pier fishing, sound fishing, or surf fishing, you’re sure to find the perfect place to cast your line—especially down near Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Island.

Bluefish. Striped bass. Tuna. Spanish mackerel. Grouper. Depending on the time of year, you’ll see big runs of fish swimming alongside the smooth gray arc of jumping dolphins. The saltwater fishing is great, but you’ll also find freshwater and even fly-fishing spots. Plenty of charter tours and headboat trips are available.

Check out OBX.com’s up-to-date fishing reports, or ask the local fishing and tackle shops what’s biting and where. If you do, you might not even need to exaggerate the size of that next catch.

Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station to get a 'lift' Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station to get a 'lift'
The Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station will soon be getting an uplift, said Chris Ivers of the NC Aquarium Society. Currently bids are being solicited for the exterior renovation of the building, and on July 22 one general contractor will be awarded the project. The NC Aquarium Society has been tasked to stabilize, secure and remove the building from the storm surge zone. There is no set timeline for the exterior renovation, however, Ivers noted they will plan around hurricane season. "We don't want to have a historic structure on blocks in the middle of a hurricane."
