OBX – Outer Banks Surfing

If you’re a surfer, you’ve probably already heard about the Outer Banks. It’s easily one of the best surfing spots on the East Coast, thanks to its perfect combination of winds, currents and waves. Miles of open ocean stretch beyond the shore, so waves gather plenty of energy and strength before crashing against the beach. In other words, surfing the Outer Banks can be a wild ride.
Experienced surfers can dive in and head for the breakers.
The waves are particularly good toward Hatteras, where the currents are stronger and the land juts further out into the Atlantic. But on the Outer Banks, even beginners can learn how to catch a wave. The Outer Banks is home to numerous surf shops, and almost all of them offer lessons for all levels of expertise. And if you don’t have your own gear, it’s easy to rent surfboards, skimboards, boogie boards, wetsuits and more.

Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station to get a 'lift'The Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station will soon be getting an uplift, said Chris Ivers of the NC Aquarium Society. Currently bids are being solicited for the exterior renovation of the building, and on July 22 one general contractor will be awarded the project. The NC Aquarium Society has been tasked to stabilize, secure and remove the building from the storm surge zone. There is no set timeline for the exterior renovation, however, Ivers noted they will plan around hurricane season. "We don't want to have a historic structure on blocks in the middle of a hurricane."
