outer banks vacation rentals duck
Duck is becoming one of the most popular places on the Outer Banks—partially because it’s such a fun vacation rental destination for families with kids. Both the Travel Channel and American Online rank it among the top family beach spots in the United States.
While the beautiful beach is certainly the big draw, it’s easy to walk, bike, or skate to a variety of small shops and cafés. Simply take the Duck Trail, a popular seven-mile, multi-use path that winds its way through town. And make sure to take a detour to the new municipal park, a premier community recreational facility encompassing a beautiful sound-side maritime forest and willow swamp. New walking trails, a public kayak/canoe launch, a gazebo, boardwalks, and a playground are all part of the design. A new pavilion made its debut in 2007, launching a new era of musical, theater and children’s events—including a fun Summer Music Series.
OBXtra #3—Just Ducky
With a name like Duck, it’s not surprising that the town is a designated bird sanctuary. And while you’ll certainly see a fair share of ducks paddling around, you should also keep an eye out for herons, egrets, terns and skimmers. They’re among the most popular of the nearly 400 bird species spotted on the Outer Banks.
