Kill Devil Hills
Despite its somewhat menacing name, Kill Devil Hills is a wonderful seaside town located in the heart of the Outer Banks. It’s best known as the spot where powered flight first began, and the historic Wright Brothers National Memorial is now a major attraction for visitors from around the world.
Kitty Hawk is also one of the Outer Banks’ largest towns. So in addition to history, you’ll also find an incredibly wide selection of shopping, dining, fishing, recreation and plain old beachfront fun. Boat launches, fishing piers, walking trails, playgrounds, tennis courts and picnic areas are available when (and if) you’re ready to take a break from Kitty Hawk’s beautiful beaches.

While Orville and Wilbur sent out news of their exciting adventure from a Kitty Hawk telegraph office, the actual flight took place in neighboring Kill Devil Hills.
