Autumn fun on the Outer Banks continues… Yes, we’ve had our fair share of run-ins with tropical storms and hurricanes this season but we simply can’t help loving this time of year. The weather is amazing, the fishing great, lots of beachcombing to be done, and the festivals and fun continue!

Come out and join us for 2 days of kite flying fun for the whole family. On Saturday, Kitty Hawk Kites and the Eastern League Stunt Kite Association will host demos and a competition on the field and a FREE family fun fly day. Enjoy massive display kites flying high, and participate in stunt and power kite lessons given by pros. Following OBSKC, on Saturday, October 22, and the 2nd annual OBX Brewtag, a celebration of flight and beer benefitting The Rogallo Foundation. Sunday, come watch some of the nation’s most talented kite fliers put on world-class displays of artistry and skill with kite flying set to music, synchronized performances, and more.

KELLY’S HOSPITALITY GROUP 23RD ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT – October 24th – Nags Head Golf Links – (Postponed after Hurricane Matthew) – To date, the Golf Tournament has raised almost $350,000 for the Outer Banks Community Foundation. 100 percent + of the proceeds from this tournament go to the OBCF and are invested on the Outer Banks. FELINE HOPE FUND RAISER FISH FRY (rescheduled)– October 25th – 5:00 – 8:00 pm – Old Nags Head Café, Nags Head – The dinner is eat-in or carryoout which includes a generous portion of fried fish, chips, and cole slaw. The cost is $12.00 for eat in which includes a non-alcoholic drink. A cash bar will be available. $10.00 for carry out which does not include a drink. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and many delicious baked goods available for sale for dessert.

shad_boat_opt_by_b_l_wickre_7_17_12ROANOKE ISLAND WOODEN BOAT SHOW – October 29th – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm – This annual event is held on the last Friday and Saturday in October. The show is open to all wooden boats new construction or restored. The boats are displayed in the Creef Boathouse and Park, and in the water at the Roanoke Marshes lighthouse docks. Exhibiting boats will be judged on owner built/restored or professional built/restored.  Awards will be presented at the awards dinner Saturday evening and will include the “People’s Choice Award” and the “H.A. Creef Award “a perpetual award that is presented to the best overall boat.

OBX OYSTERTOBER FEST – October 29th – 12:00 – 3:00 pm – Southern Shores Crossing Shopping Center – Local and regional oyster farmers will be on hand shucking oysters for your eating pleasure, along with 8 Outer Banks restaurants offering their individual oyster dish samples. Throw in 8 North Carolina craft beers to enjoy, and a little Bavarian fun and you’ve got the makings of a great day! Enjoy all you care to eat raw and steamed oysters, prepared oyster dishes, and craft beers for one ticket price. Just $35 in advance online (here) and $40 at the door. We support numerous community organizations and events with the funds raised from this event. All you can BBQ and Oysters!!! Advance tickets are $25, $30 at the door.

A REASON TO SMILE FUNDRAISER – November 4th – 6:00 – 9:00 pm – Trio Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk – Come join friends of A Reason to Smile for its first annual fundraiser on the OBX! You’ll have plenty of reasons to smile as you enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, a silent auction, raffle prizes and great music–all while supporting international dental health.
