The Town of Manteo invites you to join the 42nd Dare Day on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Held on the Manteo waterfront on the Outer Banks of North Carolina where arts, crafts entertainment, and family fun bring the community and visitors together. The Town of Manteo in partnership with Dare County and the Outer Banks Visitor Bureau is presenting 2017 Dare Day.
The festival begins at 9:00 am at the Oasis Suites Hotel Courthouse Stage with the Blessing of the Season followed by Trinidad Ron on steel drums. A variety of music continues throughout the day with the Original Rhondels performing at 11:00 am on the Oasis Suite Hotel Boathouse Stage. Visit our website for the complete music line up.
The Towne Bank Rain Gutter Regatta for kids ages 4-11 is back again this year with more gutters to race with and awards for the winners in each age group. This year a Best Decorated boat will be awarded too. Be sure to go by the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum on Fernando Street to pick up your free sailboat kit before the event so you will be ready to compete on Dare Day.
The Hogway Speedway Racing Pigs are here at Dare Day this year and will be performing three shows at the boat ramp parking area. Featured at the NC State Fair, these racing pigs are great entertainment.
CW Trails Bike Stunt Show will also be here this year with three shows to perform daring stunts with bikes and ramps.
The NC Cooperative Extension office is coordinating The Saga Construction Blue Ribbon Competition this year and it’s is back with more categories and age groups for ribbons in homemade pies, cakes, cookies and jams.
At noon, the Citizen of the Year for Dare County and Town of Manteo will be presented at the Oasis Suites Hotel Courthouse Stage.
This year, The Kid’s Zone features free amusement rides and a variety of bouncy houses including a new zip line for kids of all ages.
Back by popular demand is the “Anything That Floats But a Boat Race” to be held in the afternoon behind the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum. Registration is free and promises to be a great nautical experience.
There will be free Shad Boat rides throughout the day to tour the surrounding Shallowbag Bag.
There are over 100 food, craft and informational booths that will be lined up along the waterfront boardwalk and down Queen Elizabeth Street.
A shuttle is available again this year. Park at College of the Albemarle on Hwy 64 and catch a ride downtown. The shuttle will run from 9:00 am until 6:15 pm. As the sun sets, come back and enjoy an evening concert with music and dancing as North Tower hits the Oasis Suites Hotel Boathouse stage at 7:00 pm. Bring your lawn chair and dancing shoes and enjoy great music and food.
All of the events are free, so come and enjoy a fun day in downtown Manteo on the waterfront. Please note that the downtown boat ramp next to the Cora Mae Basnight bridge will be closed for parking and boat launching on Friday afternoon through Saturday for event set up.
