DARE COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL PRESENTS – Collectors Classic Longboard Exhibit – September 2nd – 30th – 300 Queen Anne Ave, Manteo – Celebrating the art of surfing, the Collectors Classic Longboard Exhibit paired with Outer Banks surf photography by Mickey McCarthy will be on display. Returning for its second consecutive year, the Collectors Classic Longboard Exhibit by Steve Wise will feature a curated selection of 30 unique surfboards from surfers across the Outer Banks. On Friday, September 16 surf and art enthusiasts are invited to Dare County Arts Council for the longboard and photography exhibit reception at 6pm. Guests will be able to meet local surfboard collectors and photographer Mickey McCarthy. Following the reception, Dare County Arts Council will host a film screening that is part of the Surfalorus Film Festival. CURRITUCK WILDLIFE FESTIVAL – September 10th – 11th – Currituck County High School, Barco – The Wildlife Festival is held the 2nd weekend in September and features Wildlife artisans from up and down the Eastern Seaboard. This Festival was started by the Coinjock Ruritan Club in 2004, and continues to be a popular attraction today. On display, for viewing and purchase are original paintings and prints, numerous hand carvings of various birds and wildlife, decoys for display or hunting, antique decoys, photography, taxidermy, and many one-of-a kind gifts associated with Wildlife.

Surfalorus_Poster2016SURFALORUS 5th ANNUAL SURF FILM FESTIVAL – September 15th – 17th – The Surfalorous Film Festival will return to the Outer Banks with a new slate of films! The free family friendly event will showcase a new slate of the coolest surf films and ocean documentaries, featuring ‘Psychic Migrations’ directed by Ryan Thomas, ‘It Ain’t Pretty’ directed by Dayla Soul, ‘Forbidden Trim’ directed by George Trimm, and ‘The Zone’ directed by Jack Coleman. Surfalous will kick off at the Outer Banks Brewing Station on Thursday, September 15 at 7pm with nine films and live music by Outer Banks surf rock band Frozen Head and the Squirrels. Surfalorus will travel to downtown Manteo for film screenings at Dare County Arts Council on Friday, September 16 at 7pm. Five films will be shown after the Collectors Classic Longboard Exhibit reception at DCAC, which begins at 6pm. The exhibit by Steve Wise will feature a curated selection of 30 unique surfboards and Outer Banks surf photography by Mickey McCarthy. INNAUGURAL DARE COUNTY MOTORCYCLE TOY RUN – September 24th – 11:00 am – Manns Harbor – A group of Dare County motorcycle enthusiasts have come together to launch another home-grown charitable event! The inaugural Dare County Motorcycle Toy Run will take place Sept. 24, and proceeds and toys collected will be split between the Outer Banks Woman’s Club Angel Gift program and Dare County Toys for Tots. The ride will start at Vertigo Tattoo at 7594 Shipyard Road in Manns Harbor, with kick stands up at 11 a.m. A rain date of Oct. 1 has also been set. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at Vertigo on the day of the event. The registration fee on the day of the event is $30 plus a new, unwrapped toy per bike. The ride begins with a parade of motorcycles leaving Vertigo Tattoo at 11 a.m. proceeding to Bodie Island Lighthouse for photo opportunity with a 30-minute layover. The bikes will then proceed north on N.C. 1243, then on N.C. 12 to Longboards in Kitty Hawk. 27th ANNUAL ARTRAGEOUS KIDS ART FESTIVAL – Sept 24th – 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Dare County Family Recreational Park, Kill Devil Hills – This year Artrageous will feature free, fun and unique art activities that emphasize the importance of reuse and recycling. These activities will be hosted by Dare County Arts Council and partner nonprofit organizations, including the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station. Chicamacomico’s involvement with Artrageous grew out of the “Take a Shake” project in which the Historic Association and DCAC distributed shakes salvaged from the 1911 Life-Saving Station to local artists. Kids (and adults!) will be thrilled to see what wonders they can do with a shake, some paint and brushes. Presenting sponsor PNC Bank will host The Grow Up Great table which will feature a craft area where children are able to use their imagination to create panda or butterfly masks. The College of the Albemarle’s nationally recognized, award-winning artists will offer interactive metalsmithing. Food vendors, local artisans, outdoor activities, and live music by Sensi Trails, Frozen Head and the Squirrels, and Midnight and Macabre will also be at Artrageous. Proceeds from Artrageous benefit art education and cultural programming in all Dare County Schools, the DCAC endowment fund, and the Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund, which awards one scholarship to a graduating senior at each Dare County High School.
