mane-taill-fund-raise-poster-162nd ANNUAL MANE AND TAILL – Riding for Change Fun Day – October 29th – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Currituck Rural Center, off N. Spot Road, Powells Point – We will have many free activities for kids, tons of vendors selling their crafts, pony rides, musicians playing all day long, bounce house, silent auction, parade with our special equestrians and then they will perform in the front arena, obstacle course, face painting, pony rides, cup cake walk and many other FUN things to do for all ages This annual event helps to bring awareness to people with disabilities. Mane & Taill Therapeutic Horsemanship Academy is located in Grandy, NC. It is a non-profit organization that uses equines therapy with children and adults with disabilities. It is an AMAZING program run by very patient and compassionate people. Our motto: “We Are All Equal Through A Horse’s Eye”. Please come out and support an incredible group of volunteers who run the program and to honor the wonderful special equestrian athletes. Something for everyone!!! See you there!

40TH ANNUAL MARCH OF DIMES MARCH FOR BABIES CHARITY WALK – October 29TH – Elizabethan Gardens, Manteo –  Registration and check in at 1:30 and walk At 2:30. There will be live entertainment provided by the Mustang Music Program, activities and crafts and food. Participants will walk 3 laps around the Gardens: The 1st for HOPE. That someday all babies will be born healthy and full term; and infant mortality will decrease. The 2nd to remember all the babies who did not survive, the families who have experienced loss and those born too soon. The 3rd to celebrate all babies, 78 Years of March of Dimes work and 40 Years of community support in The Outer Banks. 76- Cents of every dollar goes to fund life-saving research, advocacy and education programs.

shad_boat_opt_by_b_l_wickre_7_17_12ROANOKE ISLAND WOODEN BOAT SHOW – October 29th – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm – This annual event is held on the last Friday and Saturday in October. The show is open to all wooden boats new construction or restored. The boats are displayed in the Creef Boathouse and Park, and in the water at the Roanoke Marshes lighthouse docks. Exhibiting boats will be judged on owner built/restored or professional built/restored.  Awards will be presented at the awards dinner Saturday evening and will include the “People’s Choice Award” and the “H.A. Creef Award “a perpetual award that is presented to the best overall boat.

OBX OYSTERTOBER FEST – October 29th – 12:00 – 3:00 pm – Southern Shores Crossing Shopping Center – Local and regional oyster farmers will be on hand shucking oysters for your eating pleasure, along with 8 Outer Banks restaurants offering their individual oyster dish samples. Throw in 8 North Carolina craft beers to enjoy, and a little Bavarian fun and you’ve got the makings of a great day! Enjoy all you care to eat raw and steamed oysters, prepared oyster dishes, and craft beers for one ticket price. Just $35 in advance online (here) and $40 at the door. Space is limited so we encourage you to purchase in advance.

oink-and-oysterFIRST FLIGHT ROTARY OINK AND OYSTER ROAST (rescheduled) – October 29th – 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm, Longboards Island Grill, Kitty Hawk – The RESCHEDULED Oink and Oyster Roast from the First Flight Rotary Club will be Saturday, October 29th! We support numerous community organizations and events with the funds raised from this event. All you can BBQ and Oysters!!! Advance tickets are $25, $30 at the door.

halloween-parade-500x500-1KELLY’S OUTER BANKS RESTAURANT AND TAVERN PRESENTS – Outer Banks Halloween Parade – October 30th – 2:00 – 5:00 pm –  Nags Head – Registration for the parade opens and the pre-parade Halloween Festival begins at 2pm, featuring live entertainment, special guests, trick or treating, and new additions for 2016, including a pumpkin carving contest and an art exhibit showing off the entries in our first ever Halloween Parade Poster Contest.

HALLOWEEN IN MANTEO – October 31st – 5:00 – 9:00 pm – Manteo – The town of Manteo celebrates Halloween in a big way. Children usually begin trick or treating around 5pm at the homes and businesses. At 6pm, Coastal Family Church has their annual Children’s Fest on Queen Elizabeth Street. There are games, bouncy houses, face painting, a bonfire and food. Source Church and Mt. Olivet UMC also host a Trunk or Treat at the churches. Mt. Olivet’s Trunk or Treat begins at 5pm until 7pm. The Town of Manteo turns the boathouse into a kid-friendly haunting with treats too, from 6pm until 8pm. Bring the family for a night of fun. All these events are free and take place in downtown Manteo along Sir Walter Raleigh Street, Queen Elizabeth Street, Budleigh Street and Fernando Street. PS – don’t miss the Great Talking Pumpkin at the White Doe Inn and the Singing Pumpkins, they are both on Sir Walter Raleigh Street.

creepyCREEPY IN COROLLA – October 31st – 6:00 – 8:30 pm – Whalehead in Historic Corolla – The Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Whalehead in Historic Corolla, and the residents of Corolla are planning a Trick or Treat event for Creepy in Corolla this year. Children from all over are invited to come visit the Historic Corolla Village for their Trick or Treating spot on Halloween. Meant to be mildly scary but fun trick or treating too!  Halloweeners will start their trick or treating on the grounds of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse to see if any of the 140 year old buildings are inhabited and whether the keepers of old care for knocks on their doors after dark, walk past curmudgeonly Corolla Trunk or Treaters to cross the Park’s decrepit, haunted bridge, knock on the door of the Whalehead Club to see if any 100 year old treats are inside, hop on a hay ride (…if they come out of the 1925 historic home alive!), and then finish with a first (and final!) visit to the generator room of Mr. and Mrs. Knight’s Boathouse.. HAUNTED HOUSE – October 31st – 6:00 – 8:00 pm – Roanoke Island Maritime Museum – Manteo – Visit the museum for a slightly nautical haunted time. The event is FREE… bring the family.

WHALEHEAD LEGENDS AND LORE – October 31st – 7:00 pm – Corolla – On All Hallows’ Eve, 16 brave souls will experience Whalehead from the inside — overnight and locked-in. twain2THE DON & CATHARINE BRYAN CULTURAL SERIES PRESENTS – Whiskey with Twain with Ryan Clemens of the Virginia Stage Company – November 2nd – 7:30 – 9:30 pm – Hilton Garden Inn, Kitty Hawk – The Don & Catharine Bryan Cultural Series invites you to Meet Mark Twain through a direct descendent of the great American author. Ryan Clemens is a pretty fun guy. He’s also an actor, director, playwright, teacher, and Mark Twain enthusiast. As Virginia Stage Company’s Resident Theatre Artist, he has performed both on the main stage and in a variety of touring shows, classes and workshops. Originally from Wyoming, Ryan began his career leading a travelling Wild West show. He has performed at theatres around the nation, with his recent work including four seasons with Norfolk’s Virginia Stage Company and three seasons with the Virginia Shakespeare Festival.

FIRST FRIDAY ROANOKE ISLAND ON MANTEO’S HISTORIC WATERFRONT – November 4th – 6:00 – 8:00 pm – Manteo – First Friday is a fun-filled, family-oriented street festival held the first Friday of each month, April through December in Historic Downtown Manteo along the Waterfront. The sidewalks pulse with live music, magic, artisans, period-dressed actors, a rock-climbing wall and much more.

pop-upDARE COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL PRESENTS – November Pop Up Show – November 4th – 18th – Manteo – Featuring work by Kaleigh Trott and Ellen Usher. Join us for the opening of this fun, colorful exhibit during November First Friday festivities from 6-8pm. Enjoy refreshments and live music as part of the First Friday celebrations in Downtown Manteo too. Ellen Usher and Kayleigh Trott met at the Monarch Beach Club, a day activity center for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, 3 years ago. Kayleigh, Ellen’s one on one mentor, discovered Ellen’s love for art very quickly. Combining her passion for drawing circles and colorful brush strokes with Kayleighs love for abstract art, together they create beautiful work they like to call their “masterpieces.”

A REASON TO SMILE FUNDRAISER – November 4th – 6:00 – 9:00 pm – Trio Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk – Come join friends of A Reason to Smile for its first annual fundraiser on the OBX! 7th ANNUAL OUTER BANKS SHRIMP COOK-OFF – November 6th – 12:00 – 3:00 pm – Ocean Boulevard Restaurant, Kitty Hawk – The Outer Banks Shrimp Cook-Off is an annual event held to raise money for The Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research. As many as Ten Competing Chefs prepare dishes using fresh, local shrimp, for attendees to try and vote on, while enjoying other aspects of the benefit.  Proceeds from the ticket sales, and silent auction sales, are donated to the dolphin research center. 29th ANNUAL OUTER BANKS WOMAN’S CLUB ANGEL GIFT PROGRAM – November 11th – December 2nd – Providing a magical Christmas experience to needy children in Dare County, in partnership with the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services. Christmas trees with angels to “adopt” that specify gifts the children have requested will be on display beginning November 11 through December 2 at Walmart, TJMaxx, Island Pharmacy, OBX Chevrolet/ Buick and the YMCA.
