Hurricane Matthew and Outer Banks Events October 2016

Hurricane Matthew made it hard for the OBX to determine what we could expect for this week. It would appear, as of this posting, that the Outer Banks will have some wind and rain but we may be escaped the hardest part. Sadly, we’ve had some cancellations but the fun will weather the storm.

Our thoughts are with the people of Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Florida and all others who have been so overwhelmingly affected by Hurricane Matthew. We as all to support relief efforts however possible.

Whether you are touring for the first time or you are one of the tens of thousands who has attended previous years’ Parades, we are looking forward to having you spend a few wonderful autumn days with us, enjoying the more relaxed pace and beautiful weather that we anticipate during off-season. When you purchase your ticket, you will receive the Parade of Homes magazine, containing all of the information about the builders and the homes and products. In the center of the magazine you will also find a detailed map to help you locate and visit all the homes, and our advertisers look forward to hearing from you regarding their products as featured in the homes. Your ticket is good for all four days of the tour and proceeds benefit the local food pantry and other local charitable efforts. http://obhomebuilders.org/welcome-letter/

2ND ANNUAL INSHORE SLAM FISHING TOURNAMENT – October 7th – 8th – Manteo Waterfront – Participants compete for the largest fish in four categories; stripers, flounder, puppy drum, and speckle trout. There is also a single “Grand Slam” award for the individual who weighs in fish from at least three of the four categories, with the highest total weight. The tournament is held the first weekend in October, in conjunction with Manteo’s First Friday, and with the expectation of more fish and warmer weather. Most locals will agree that early October is one of their favorite times on the Outer Banks. The tournament is held on the Manteo waterfront, with docking available, at the Maritime Museum. Our tournament is a family event. We encourage everyone to share the fun and excitement of the tournament with your spouse, friends, family, and especially make it a point to “take a kid fishing”. Prizes and trophies will be awarded in adult, women’s and youth divisions. As is our tradition, we will also hold our famous silent auction with great prizes and gifts available for all tastes and budgets. Our Saturday night awards banquet will be fun for all with live music and a pig pickin’ by Chef Paul Mann & Crew.
