FAMILY TRADITIONS OF SERVICE: AN HISTORICAL TRIBUTE TO VETERANS – November 12th – 7:00pm – Dare County Arts Council, 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo – Free and open to the public. Special reception and presentation that includes: A Historical Military Exhibit from the North Carolina Archives, A Preview of The Mysteries of the Graveyard documentary by Bryan Jones, Panel Discussion of Outer Banks History Center’s Exhibit A Heritage of Heroes: The Coast Guard of North Carolina. 2nd ANNUAL VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION – November 13th – 8:30am – Hosted by Cape Hatteras Secondary School, 48576 NC-12, Buxton – Activities begin with a breakfast at 8:30 am, followed by an assembly at 9:30 am, at which time our veterans will be recognized for their service. 3RD ANNUAL CURRITUCK KIDS GOBBLER JOGGER 5K & 1 MILE FUN RUN – November 14th – Currituck Community Park, 208 Airport Rd Maple – To benefit Currituck kids! The mission of the Currituck Kids organization is to provide Currituck County’s school-aged students with the necessities to enhance the total school experience and ensure they reach their full potential with dignity and respect. DARE COUNTY ARTS COUNCIL 3RD ANNUAL OUTER BANKS VETERANS WEEK “THE OUTER BANKS VETERANS WRITING PROJECT” –November 14th & 15th – 9:00 am – 5:00 pm – The UNC Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese – The centerpiece of Outer Banks Veterans Week is the Outer Banks Veterans Writing Project, a free two-day writing workshop taught by veterans for veterans and active duty service members. ISLAND HOLIDAY CRAFT SHOW – November 14th – 9:00 am – 812 State Rd 1121, Manteo First Assembly, Manteo – Raffle, food and fun. Concessions by Dare Challenge.
KELLY’S OUTER BANKS RESTAURANT & TAVERN PRESENTS – Tailgate Down – November 14th – 10:00 pm – 1:30 am – Nags Head – This is a Special Benefit Concert for Outer Banks Veterans Week. The event is co-hosted by Dare County Arts Council, VFW American Legion and the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council and features Solider Hard and Tailgate Down, Hampton Roads’ favorite country rock party band. Special guests include Anthony Anderson, Dale Comstock and Melissa Jarboe. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at Kelly’s for $5 (free w/military ID). Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Dare County Veterans Advisory Council. Outer Banks Veterans Week has a full schedule that includes luncheons, ceremonies, concerts and more! 28th Annual Outer Banks Woman’s Club Angel Gifts Project – OBWC helped over 450 children with Christmas gifts for the 2014 season. The Angel Gifts Project is in partnership with Dare County Social Services. Parents that need help buying gifts for their children are asked to complete an application at the Dare County Social Services offices in Manteo. Applications will be taken October 26 through Nov.13th.
Donations for Angel Gifts can be mailed to Outer Banks Woman’s Club, PO Box 102, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 or processed through PayPal on the club’s website at www.gfwc-obwc.com. Opportunities are also available for an individual, or family, to sponsor a child by providing their Christmas gifts. Names can be found on the Angel Gifts Project Trees that are located at the following businesses; Rack Room Shoes in Kill Devil Hills Center and the Tanger Outlet Center in Nags Head ( these trees will have names of those children needing shoes); Walmart in Kitty Hawk, and Island Pharmacy in Manteo. Those wishing to sponsor a child can also call Gwen White at (252) 441-4966 or (252) 202-2329 for information.
PLEASE NOTE: The OBWC is the only organization providing gifts for the Angel Gifts Project. In the past, Hotline has also participated but can no longer do so due to restrictions in their Mission Statement.
