Outer Banks Activities 7/19 – 17/25

Each week the Outer Banks provides an amazing source of activities for everyone. From environmental explorations to cornhole tournaments to live music and everything in between you will find fun everywhere! The OBX isn’t just a beach, although the beach is the biggest attraction. It is also a place of huge historical significance, vast environment and ecological wonders, and tremendously talented people including chefs, musicians, artists and more. So, let your spirit soar and explore everything the Outer Banks has to offer!

Tracks in the Sand at Jockey’s Ridge State ParkJuly 19 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm – Jockey’s Ridge State Park, 300 W Carolista, Nags Head – A program to discover the tracks and signs of native wildlife species.  Participants make a plaster cast of their favorite track to take home.  Call ahead to register.  Ages: 7-13 Meet at the Visitor Center Find out more »

Whalehead WednesdayJuly 19 @ 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Whalehead in Historic Corolla, 1100 Club Road, Corolla – Whalehead Wednesday Wine Tasting is a family-friendly event that will be held each Wednesday starting May 31st through September 13th from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. General admission is $15 and includes a souvenir wine glass. Admission is free for children. Along with the wine tasting, we will have beer tastings from the Weeping Radish Brewery, food available for purchase, great live music from local bands and activities for children. The Currituck Cornhole Tournaments will start Wednesday, May 31st and run the same dates as Whalehead Wednesday. Competitors must register as a team. No singles. Teams will be able to pre-register for each week’s game as well as sign-up the day of….registration from 3pm to 4pm. The games will start at 4pm to 7pm. Cost will be $10 person/$20 team. Kid’s Day in the ParkJuly 20 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Whalehead in Historic Corolla, 1100 Club Road, Corolla – This event will include children’s activities, a bounce house, and features a special children’s tour of Whalehead, the “Joan’s Way Tour” as well as other fun activities. Soundside Discoveries at Jockey’s Ridge State ParkJuly 20 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Jockey’s Ridge State Park, 300 W Carolista, Nags Head – Staff from the North Carolina Coastal Federation will be at the park every other Thursday until July 20th to answer all water quality related questions. Acoustic SunsetJuly 20 @ 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm – The Cotton Gin, 6957 Caratoke Hwy, Jarvisburg – Sanctuary Vineyards holds a weekly acoustic wine-down each Thursday on the north lawn of the Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg. Youth Sailing ProgramJuly 21 @ 8:00 am – 5:00 pm – Roanoke Island Maritime Museum, 100 Fernando Street, Manteo – The Outer Banks Community Sailing Program located at the boat shop on the Manteo Waterfront is an “on-the-water program” of the Roanoke Island Maritime Museum. The youth program started in 2000 to make the adventure of sailing available to youth in Dare County and visitors. Meet a MustangJuly 21 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am – Corolla Wild Horse Fund, 1129 Corolla Village Road, Corolla – Come to the museum on Fridays during the season to meet a rescued, gentled Colonial Spanish mustang and learn about the horses’ history on the Outer Banks. Event is free and open to the public.
